Kathleen is an undergraduate at Yale University and a researcher at the Yale School of Public Health, dedicated to applying statistical methods to questions in biology and medicine. At CORC, she contributes to orthopedic surgery outcomes research, exploring questions of preoperative care and post-surgical recovery. She is majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and is pursuing a career as a physician, drawn to medicine through the intersection of research and patient care. She is especially interested in how healthcare approaches and outcomes vary across different and underserved populations, and believes that careful analysis of clinical data is essential to closing those gaps and delivering equitable, whole-person care to every patient.

Amelia Wieland
Research Associate

Amelia Wieland

Student Researcher

Brown University

Amelia Wieland is a student researcher at Brown University and a member of the Clinical Orthopaedic Research Consortium (CORC). Her interests include orthopaedic epidemiology, musculoskeletal surgical outcomes, and healthcare accessibility. Amelia’s research experience ranges from investigating clinical outcomes following total joint arthroplasty in patients with elevated BMI to studying the neural mechanisms underlying cognition, behavior, and neurodegenerative disease. Amelia is studying Neuroscience, and hopes to pursue a career as a physician dedicated to advancing evidence-based surgical care, understanding community healthcare needs, and improving health equity.

Angela Morcos

Rohan Panjwani
Research Associate

Rohan Panjwani

Student Researcher

Brown University

Rohan Panjwani is a student researcher at the Brown School of Public Health. His orthopaedic research focuses on joint replacement outcomes and the social determinants that shape recovery, including work as a co-first author on a study of manipulation under anesthesia after primary total knee arthroplasty at an urban safety-net hospital. He is passionate about health economics, tracking how US health policy plays out in practice from private equity acquisition of nursing homes to disparities in maternal mortality. Rohan studies Economics at Brown University on the premedical track. He hopes to practice medicine while using economic evidence to improve access, coverage, and the organization of care.

Navin Ramesh
Research Associate

Navin Ramesh

Student Researcher

Brown University

Navin Ramesh is a student researcher at Brown University and the Warren Alpert Medical School. His research is focused on spine surgery, joint replacement, opioid and alcohol addiction, and health policy. He's passionate about sustainability in healthcare and improving clinical outcomes in surgery and pain medicine. Navin studies Economics and Music at Brown, and lives in northern Massachusetts.

Tina Siu
Research Associate

Tina Siu

Student Researcher

Brown University

Tina is an undergraduate at Brown University studying Biology with a concentration in immunobiology. Her research experience spans innate immune cell regulation in mouse models to clinical investigations of orthopedic perioperative outcomes. As a member of CORC, she is interested in metabolic determinants of perioperative outcomes, healthcare accessibility, and improving representation of underrepresented populations in clinical research. She has studied clinical outcomes following total joint arthroplasty among patients with elevated BMI. Tina hopes to become a physician-scientist advancing evidence-based care through insights gained from clinical research.

Virginia He
Research Associate

Virginia He

Student Researcher

Brown University

Virginia is an undergraduate student at Brown University studying human biology and public health. She is interested in orthopedic epidemiology, physiology, and sports medicine, particularly among historically underserved populations. Her ongoing research consists of both clinical data analysis and wet lab osteoarthritis investigations, looking at intersections between social determinants of health and patient outcomes.

Maria Gonzalez
Research Associate

Maria Gonzalez

Student Researcher

Brown University

Maria is an undergraduate student at Brown University interested in clinical orthopaedic surgery research, including outcomes after total joint arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, and cervical spine procedures including ACDF and hybrid reconstruction. Her research focuses on identifying clinical, surgical, and systems-level factors associated with complications, reoperation, recovery, and long-term functional outcomes. She is particularly interested in studying these questions within safety-net hospital settings to better understand how socioeconomic barriers, access to rehabilitation and postacute care, and resource limitations influence surgical decision-making and postoperative outcomes.

Makaya Fofana
Research Associate

Makaya Fofana

Graduate Researcher

BronxCare Health System

Makaya Fofana is a recent Brown University graduate. Her work spans both translational and clinical orthopaedic research. Her interests include orthopaedic epidemiology, patient outcomes, and musculoskeletal disease, with experience ranging from investigating epigenetic mechanisms of arthritis to evaluating quality improvement initiatives and surgical outcomes. She has contributed to projects on opioid prescribing after total joint arthroplasty, physical therapy adherence, secondary procedures following orthopaedic surgery, and implementation of standardized specimen orientation practices. Makaya hopes to pursue a career as a physician dedicated to improving evidence-based musculoskeletal care and reducing disparities in access to high-quality treatment.
